NGV Workshop a Success!

On November 18, 2008 more than 70 people attended the Natural Gas Vehicle Workshop co-organized by GPCOG’s Maine Clean Communities…

Tuesday, the Clean Vehicle Education Foundation (CVEF) co-hosted another successful “Compelling Case for Natural Gas Vehicles” Workshop. Thanks to the great outreach efforts of workshop co-hosts Barbara Bernstein (Granite State Clean Cities) and Steve Linnell (Maine Clean Communities), the workshop was attended by nearly 75 public and private fleet operators, elected officials and other policy-makers.

Workshop sessions covered economic, environmental and energy security market drivers; “NGV 101” basics; available vehicles and engines; fuel station development, ownership and operations options; federal and state tax incentives and grants; and a review of economic payback and life-cycle costs analyses for a variety of light-, medium- and heavy-duty fleet applications.

The full-day program presented and moderated by Stephe Yborra also included participation by Clean Energy’s Mark Riley, Cummins Westport Inc’s (CWI) Bill Boyce and Baker Equipment’s (a BAF and Baytech qualified system installer) Josh Addison. In addition, Russ Barnett, Smithtown New York’s Director of Environment and Waterways, Joe Darling, New York State Department of Transportation’s Director of Fleet Administration, and Tom Ustanik, Owner of Lansing (IL) Cleaners shared their experiences on the fleet operator panel.

Thanks to workshop site host Steve Pesci, Director of UNH’s Campus Facilities and Planning, attendees also had the opportunity to visit UNH’s CNG station where a variety of CNG shuttles and light-duty vehicles refuel each day.

As with all the CVEF co-hosted workshops, NGVAmerica provided anchor sponsorship funding. Other workshop sponsors included American Clean Skies Foundation, ANGI Energy Systems, AVSG LP, Clean Energy, Cummins Northeast/CWI and GreenField Compression.

This was the 8th – and last - of CVEF’s 2008 “Compelling Case…” NGV Workshops. Preliminary plans for 2009 include a dozen more.
