LED Street Lights

GPCOG and the Maine Energy Work Group Held a Regional Summit on April 14, 2016 on Street Light Conversions to LEDs.

The event was co-Hosted by the Town of Falmouth, the Town of Freeport, the City of Portland, the Town of Windham and the Mt. Desert Sustainability Committee

A recent change to Maine law now allows municipalities the option of owning and managing their own street lights. Because street lights are a considerable expense and LED lighting technology retrofitting is a viable option offering superior light quality, lower maintenance and energy costs, many communities are considering converting their street lights to LEDs.
