WATERVILLE, Maine (WABI) Agricultural producers and rural small business owners turned out for a free renewable energy workshop at Colby College on Wednesday.
The Central Maine Growth Council and the Greater Portland Council of Governments hosted it.
The workshop featured details on how to access the USDA Rural Development loans and competitive grant funds for buying, installing and building renewable energy systems.
Those projects include solar, biomass, renewable biodiesel and more.
“Producing your own electricity on-site reduces your costs so that you can take those savings and invest in your business or farm production,” said Jennifer Brennan, Energy Projects Manager, GPCOG.
Those eligible for assistance include small rural businesses and agricultural producers that get at least half of their income from farming.
