We work closely with banks throughout Cumberland County to meet the financing needs of growing businesses. Small to medium-sized businesses with fewer than 50 employees or sales of less than $5 million are eligible to apply for loan programs we administer.
Loans are made to all types of businesses and can range in size from several thousand dollars to loans in excess of $200,000. Most loans are in the range of $25,000 to $100,000 with an average loan size of about $52,000.
Loan Application Qualifications
Loan applications are examined in the context of Greater Portland Council of Governments' (GPCOG) Comprehensive Economic Development Strategy. This strategy prioritizes three industry cluster areas: food, energy, and freight. As such, any projects in any of these categories should receive priority consideration from GPCOG's Loan Committee.
Gluten free, sugar free and dairy free healthy family snacks in Freeport.
We reached out to GPCOG at the very beginning of our company, when we were still working out of our home. We had just landed a deal with three Whole Food Market locations. We needed to buy equipment, supplies and ingredients and ramp up production in a new facility immediately.
Overall, the loan process can be intimidating to entrepreneurs, but GPCOG made it simple. Our loan with GPCOG helped pave the way for us to ramp up and move to our first manufacturing location.
Jim Hartley, Pine Tree Seafood & Produce Company
A family run, neighborhood seafood market in Scarborough and Old Orchard Beach.
We were a brand-new business in 2011. We bought a piece of property and planned to build our business but we found it difficult to get funds directly from a bank. We were directed to GPCOG which was instrumental in helping us land gap financing. That was critical in getting our project off the ground, built and financed. Five years later, our business is thriving and better than ever.
