Nov. 30 public meeting meeting in South Portland on Vision Zero plan

What's Vision Zero? It's a strategy to eliminate traffic fatalities and serious injuries by changing the way we design our roads and systems to ensure safe, healthy, equitable mobility for all. This strategy was born in Sweden in the 90s and has since been successfully adopted and implemented across the globe. Now, we're working to bring it to our region.

Why this matters: Every year in the United States, more than 42,000 people die in traffic crashes. Bicyclists and pedestrians are disproportionally harmed.

What communities are involved?  Our Vision Zero work right now is limited to the 18 communities in the PACTS region because that’s where we're allowed to use our federal transportation dollars. We did, however, apply for a grant that would allow us to expand the work to include those GPCOG members communities that are not in the PACTS region. We should hear back in January
