Creating a community response to the opioid crisis

We’re launching a pilot project to help municipalities in the Metro Regional Coalition address the opioid crisis. Falmouth led the way on Jan. 23 with a workshop that was attended by about 50 people, including members of the Town Council, School Board, town staff, and also Public Safety Commissioner Michael Sauschuck and Gordan Smith, the new state Director of Opioid Response.

Attendees focused on understanding the root causes of opioid misuse and creating an action plan based on strategies that have proven effective in other communities.

This project is unique in that takes advantage of the ability of municipal leaders to champion a comprehensive approach to the crisis.

There will be a public forum on Wednesday, March 13 to give Falmouth residents that same opportunity to learn about the issue and shape the action plan. The meeting will take place at 7 p.m. at Falmouth Elementary School.
