Portland, ME: September 22, 2017: As employers look for additional benefits for their workforce, more are considering electric vehicle (EV) charging stations. Currently there are 189 EV charging outlets in Maine. Employers such as IDEXX, Unum, Woodard & Curran, Hannaford Corporate, and Unity College provide charging outlets for their employees.
Drive Electric Maine, a statewide EV stakeholder group supporting EVs and EV infrastructure in Maine, is sponsoring an EV Workplace Charging workshop and EV Ride & Drive at the Southern Maine Community College (SMCC), Midcoast Campus at Brunswick Landing on October 4.
The event includes information on EV infrastructure and resources available for Maine-based employers to install charging stations. Maine and New England employers who have launched successful charging programs will be on hand to talk about how the programs benefit the company, employees and customers.
Also, at the event, Central Maine Power will announce the latest grant recipients of its Plug-In Electric Vehicle (PEV) Grant Program. The utility offers selected non-profit organizations matching funds to support the lease or purchase of eligible electric vehicles or the purchase and installation of a Level 2 or 3 charging station. In its fourth year, the program has helped 18 non-profit organizations and small businesses obtain EVs and have added charging infrastructure throughout central and southern Maine.
Following the workshop, there will be a free EV Ride and Drive open to the public. Members of the public and media will have an opportunity to test drive and learn about with the latest models of electric vehicles from Toyota, Nissan, Ford, and VW.
